In the forsaken hamlet of Galdor’s Hollow, where the sun dared only a furtive glance, there was whispered the dread name of Alaric the Crimson. Shrouded in vermilion robes that shimmered with ominous glyphs, the malevolent wizard was feared for his sinister gaze, a power that could ensnare the will of any who dared meet his eyes.
Legends told that Alaric was once a protector, a mage of great esteem who shielded the realm. But a thirst for dominion twisted his arts into something dark. His heart, once noble, now pulsed with a lust for control as deep and unforgiving as the abyss.
The folk of Galdor’s Hollow knew the cost of defiance. When the mayor once raised his voice against Alaric’s decrees, he was found the next dawn, frozen in place at the village square, eyes vacant, a silent scream etched upon his lips. No medicine could wake him, no priest could exorcise the unseen fiend that held his spirit captive.
One storm-riven night, a band of travelers, ignorant of the village's cursed plight, sought refuge within its bounds. They laughed away the warnings, boasting that their swords and spells were proof against any foe. But their bravado withered when Alaric appeared before them, his robes billowing like the wings of a demon, his eyes aglow with baleful fire.
“Look upon me and know despair,” he hissed, and where his gaze fell, terror took root. The travelers could not avert their eyes; they were ensnared, each feeling their limbs grow leaden, their voices mute, their minds trapped within silent prisons of their own making.
As dawn broke, the villagers found the travelers in the square, statuesque in terror. No word nor touch could rouse them. Alaric the Crimson had claimed his dominion once more, his hypnotic gaze leaving behind a garden of human sculptures—a warning to all that in Galdor’s Hollow, to see the wizard in red was to see the last of one’s days, not as a man, but as a monument to fear itself.
