One by one, the thieves felt the chilling grip of invisible tendrils, the Tardighouls attaching to them with ethereal mouths. With each second, their vitality drained, skin growing pale, eyes sinking into shadowed hollows. They could not scream, for the air was stolen from their lungs, could not run, for the strength had vanished from their limbs.
By morning, all that remained were husks, sprawled around an open grave, faces frozen in silent horror. And the treasure? It lay undisturbed, glittering wickedly beneath a mocking moon. The Tardighouls whispered through the leaves, a sibilant warning that some riches were guarded by more than just soil and stone—guarded by those who had become less than alive, but much more than dead.
